Purpose: This paper will analyze the role of the strategic implementation and management of cloud computing technologies in improving performance of organizations with a special interest in how investment and managerial strategy of cloud infrastructure and the resulting performance outcomes can be measured in modern business organizations.
Design/Methodology/Approach: A cross-sectional survey design was used in a quantitative method. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data on 300 managerial and information-technology employees of service and manufacturing companies. The relationships between strategic cloud computing adoption and IT-business alignment and organizational performance were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis.
Findings: The findings show a positive, statistically significant relationship between strategic adoption of cloud computing and organizational performance. The most effective predictors were cost effectiveness, scalability of operations and strategic alignment between IT and business that together accounted to a large percentage of the variance in organizational performance outcomes.
Practical Implications: Managers need to not just see cloud computing as a technical infrastructure choice but as a strategic management tool that is part of the organizational planning, resource distribution and competitive positioning.
Originality/Value: This paper is an integrated strategic-management approach to cloud computing that integrates the Resource-Based View as well as Technology-Organization-Environment framework in one empirical model in the application to organizational performance.
